Peaceful valley
What a glorious day! Alright it was a bit cold, but dry, still and lots of sunshine. Oh that all Autumn days were like this!
We wanted to get out into the hills, but knew we had to avoid the main hubs of the Lake District as, with a fine Saturday in half term, they would be teeming. So we headed to a quiet valley - Mosedale, in the northern part. We walked up the valley and had the whole place to ourselves. Only eight miles from Keswick!
Mosedale was in the past mined quite heavily and signs of the workings are all around. Lead, copper and gold were all mined here. There are ruins of buildings and many tracks where railways ran, but it is hard now to imagine the place with the noise of machinery and all the activity that there must have been in the past.
I have a version of this in mono, but decided in the end that the colours, in the sunshine and shadow, were so good it was a shame to lose them.
