The Eye of Osiris
Whilst walking round the harbour at Bugibba (Malta) we saw lots of little fishing boats which were brightly painted.....these are known as a luzzu (pronounced loot-su in Maltese). Each boats bow is normally pointed with a pair of eyes. These eyes may be the modern survival of an ancient Phoenician custom (also practiced by the ancient Greeks); they are sometimes referred to as the Eye of Osiris.
