Blip Obsession

We had about 6 inches of snow today which then turned into rain. I was determined to blip something related to the weather, but was unhappy with the results. I then decided to pursue a macro shot.

I became obsessed with this picture and photographed this image on four different occasions trying to get the desired focus, depth of field and sharpness. Fortunately, my 40D and 50/1.4 survived the multiple sessions in the pouring rain.

The reflection in the drop is my front door, the bright lights are two Christmas Angels that were turned on at the time and the dots are lingering Christmas lights. If you are wondering why these decorations are still up, they are snowed in and so we have been unable to move them. Normally they are not lit.

There was a funny story from this. I saw this drop of water and new that I wanted to shoot it. Any of you who use extension tubes know that they are finicky to focus and often require you to focus by moving the camera closer or further to the subject. This can be a challenge when mounted on a tripod with limited space as in this shot. As I was shooting the shot initially, I was getting closer and closer to the drop until the tripod slipped and the camera hit the drop! Ooooooopppppssss! Oh well, ever the resourceful person that I am, I created my own replacement via some tap water.
