Birthday Mathematics

I'm not 45.
My daughter bought a cake with two candles and handed it to the restaurant with instructions to bring it out and surprise me after our meal.
The restaurant got the candles the wrong way round. They looked at me, made their judgement and it came out nine years in my favour.
Completely understandable :-)
