Cormorant

This striking bird was resting on the river bank opposite my garden this afternoon.   I didn't see him dive after any fish but the river is in flood so what fish there are have probably hidden in the mud.   I cannot understand why the Cormorant being a diving bird doesn't have waterproof plumage and you often see them with wings extended drying themselves in the sunshine.   The extra is the same bird, different pose.
