Ferkling.....

.......in Dunbar harbour. To ferkle [ or firkle depending on the spelling] means to rummage, search or make small adjustments apparently. Its what we do at the start of the season just before the Lady Angela goes back into the water for the summer and involves hauling up the heavy ropes and shackles which the mooring buoy will be attached to in order to check all is in good and safe condition. Sheila and Nigel did it today in 2.5 degrees C temps and a rising wind. I get off with it being of small stature as even at its lowest ebb the water at this point will reach up almost to my chest and I can't do much :) Also can't get my feet onto to the bottom rung of the wall ladder from the harbour bottom to get back out!
The extra shows where about in the harbour it is.
