Cakes and seed pods

I have spent the past four hours cooking, baking and still sorting out holiday stuff. I made these Dorset apple cakes for friends who are coming tomorrow. I was also trying to blip the huge seed pods that I brought home from Barbados. It has just struck me that both have a similar pattern.
I am wondering whether the seed pods can be cleaned and polished - they are just like carved wood and very beautiful. Not sure what the tree was but at the moment it has huge green pea pods hanging off the branches- about 30 cm long. Any ideas?
