Trip to Mallaig

We travelled to Mallaig, a very beautiful journey in bright sunshine, quite warm out of the wind too;  we stopped at the Glenfinnan Monument, which is the site where Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) was alleged to raise his standard before the Jacobite Rebellion.  The HG and I climbed up to the viewpoint, along with many others.

Then on to lunch and Mallaig and a wander around the harbour before going to the station to catch the train back to Fort William, on the 'Harry Potter' line.  It was packed but our party at reserved seats.  It is a wonderful part of the West Highland line, and takes in the Glenfinnan Viaduct, and I enjoyed travelling it again. It is quite hard to get a good photo of it though, particularly on a very sunny day as the reflections were very strong on the windows of the carriage.

We were beside a family from Malta, and it was their daughter's twelfth birthday and this was her treat, as she was a Harry Potter fan.

Back at the hotel we had not much time to get ready for dinner, but we made it.

The hotel laid on entertainment for us tonight, and I was looking forward to it, and relaxing and listening.  However, our keyboard player was terrific, sang a lot of country western and sixties songs, and guess what, we were all up dancing, although not country dancing, and it was a nice change from the two previous nights.
