firefighter amidst the smoke and water

six alarm blaze next to my apartment this morning at dawn.
i heard the yelling at 6 AM. i saw the flames from my window, then the screams, "emily, emily, emil," from the street.
"i'm on the third floor, help, help, get me out of here. i'm on the third floor, in the window." panic.
the firefighters put the ladder against the wall but she couldn't wait. she jumped out to the ladder, fell a lower roof and then on top a firefighter on the ground.
the flames were soon through the roof, leaping. the smoke thick, pouring out of windows, the sound of glass smashing, the smell of charred wood.
fire is a frightening thing when it's seen like this.
