Chocolate sprinkles - Hagelslag
It's one of the Dutch peculiar eating habits, breakfast for most of the people of my generation was bread with cheese and if you were lucky you could then have a slice of bread with jam, syrup or chocolate sprinkles. Apparently the chocolate sprinkles were invented in 1936 by a company called Venz. Before that a man from another company had invented sugary sprinkles on a day when there was much hail, and he had named his sweet topping invention after the hail (in Dutch that's 'hagel')
Today there are many variations of the topping sprinkles, and the images show the Easter variation with yellow sprinkles and egg shapes in the mix (see the extra for the colours). I've just had my first hagelslag sandwich in decades :-) BTW In Flemish they call them 'mouse droppings' !!
For MonoModay's theme of 'chocolate' with thanks to Kathy (Chantler63) for hosting in the month of April.
Thanks very much for the kind comments and stars for yesterday's racing eggs and the AT144 results !
