Conygar Tower
I have a great book called 'Wild Ruins' with interesting places all around the UK. So whenever I go to an area I see if there are ideas for ruins to visit. Yesterday it was Burrow Mump and today we found Conygar Tower.
This is a fascinating place - a folly within sight of Dunster Castle when Henry Luttrell had it built in 1775 as one of his improvements to the estate. This folly was purely decorative designed to enhance his view from the Castle. Today, all the tourists were thronging in the town and castle but we only saw three other people near the Tower. This is a 'flat on the ground' shot being the only way I could get the whole tower in view AND exclude the very large National Trust information board placed prominently near the tower!
It was well worth the steep climb with a folly gateway on the way up (extra) - lots of smells for Pepper too. Now for the Easter egg hunt and a roast lamb dinner.
