Or "great spotted woodpecker" and I think it's a female because it doesn't have a red head.  But, as ever, I'm prepared to be wrong.

The sun shone and the wind died and we went for a walk to see what we could see.  Finding this was a lovely surprise (the extra shows it in action).  We saw quite a few of the green woodpeckers too but the camera decided to focus on branches and not the birds when a Blip was attempted.

Quite a few of the trees are starting to blossom - won't be long until the annual Frauenstein Cherry Blossom Blip.
