This Way to the Castle
It’s almost as though this faceless anorak is indicating the way to the Castle for all the hapless but resolute tourists who find themselves trudging up Bank Street while stranded in this dreich Athens of the North at the end of an inclement March.
The shops selling anoraks, waterproofs, hats, scarves and gloves are doing a roaring trade as are the warm cafés. Umbrellas are not so popular as folk realise quite quickly that they end up inside out much of the time.
His Lordship and I felt the need to walk off some of the calories accrued last night at our meal with David and Luca. The food was delicious and with the wine flowing, conversation ranged from the ‘Big Bang Theory’ through Christianity and Communism to the future possibility of uploading our consciousness to something like the ICloud. Stephen Hawking and Richard Dawkins even got a look in as did Nicola Sturgeon.
It was was a great evening. Thank you to Luca for her tofu salad and vegetable pasta and to David for his sticky toffee pudding.
As I finish writing this, it is trying to snow. O me miserum!
