Danger!

Pine Processionary Caterpillars arrived on our terrace this morning!.... the first time we’ve experienced them at our home.....

These caterpillars are a threat to humans and other mammals, especially dogs & cats..... they give off a dust that can cause respiratory problems.....they can also eject their hairs which can penetrate and irritate any exposed skin, or eyes.......and with dogs’ tongues being affected can result in swelling, vomiting and even death ..... you must get your pet to a vet very quickly!!

The nests are easily seen in the pine trees... we have lots of pines and conifers in our area!...
And the caterpillars can also attack the pine trees themselves..... eating the pine needles, getting under the bark....and eating the tree from within.
We’ll be taking extra care in the next few days!
