Hairy Maclary and Friends

We could not travel so near to Tauranga without saying hello to the heroes of the Lynley Dodds stories, so popular with the Flumlet and children of all ages everywhere.

Situated on the seafront, close to the children's play area, are all the figures cast in bronze by sculptor Brigitte Wuest.

For those unfamiliar with the characters, reading from left to right are Bottomley Potts, Schnitzel Von Krumm, Hairy Maclary, Scarface Claw (on top of the pole), Bitzer Maloney, Muffin McLay, Hercules Morse (Zachary Quack is hiding behind him) and, star of his own series, Slinky Malinki.

Naturally the sculptures are attractive to children who happily climb on and among them, equally happily photobombing serious Blippers!
