Huddersfield Mambo!

According to the programme for this evening’s concert at Huddersfield Town Hall, Maundy Thursday is an auspicious date for a concert opening with Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances. Drawn from the music for West Side Story, the piece set in the slums during the coincidental celebrations of Easter and Passover. “Feelings running high ...street brawls, double death- it all fits”. This followed by Gershwin, Adams and Rachmaninov, all brilliantly played by the Orchestra of Opera North. The kids in front from a local primary school seemed to enjoy it. The big kids behind them were enchanted.
