Red-shafted Northern Flicker
Last night I noticed the beginnings of a scratchy throat. Sigh. A cold coming on. So today I'm laying low. After I put out the food this morning I was at the sink getting breakfast together when I noticed this beautiful flicker at the suet feeder. We just added suet to the menu a few days ago and the starlings ate the whole block in two days. So I was having second thoughts. And then this beauty showed up. I took the photo through the window at ISO 2500 so the results were a grainy not very contrasty photo. Photoshop and Nik plug ins to the rescue. So here he is hanging on behind the suet feeder enjoying a snack. Remember the "L" key for the larger view.
