Moving in the hills
We got up at 7am and I had my morning coffee, then we started packing.
Too much stuff!!! And as expected, a lot of things we packed in Glasgow, we had not even touched!
We then went down for breakfast, but they asked us to come back a bit later, as the restaurant was full.
That was handy, as Neil wanted to look for a laptop bag at the Gilson Martins Shop.
We came to the conclusion that we would have to actually come back with the laptop as we were not sure if it was fitting.
We went for our breakfast first.
After all the garlic and bread last night my tummy was not at its best this morning, so I had just fruit for breakfast.
We then walked out again, with laptop this time (!!!) and found a really nice bag for Neil. The gay sales guy was lovely and helpful and I even got a hug and a kiss in the end!
Time was creeping on and we had to leave the hotel at 1 pm.
We did say good by to the beach though and got at least our feet wet.
Back in the Hotel we checked out and asked for them to store the luggage for another hour.
I had seen an amazing ice cream shop last night and wanted not to miss it!
It is self service and you pay by weight! The ice-cream was amazing and so many different tastes.
I went for a HUGE tub as I felt greedy! I think it was about 400 gram, but it was so good!!!
Back in the Hotel we ordered a taxi and off we went to get to our apartment in Santa Teresa! A bohemian neighbourhood on the hill.
The taxi brought us all way up and we are basically living in the rainforest with stunning views from our terrace!!
We were quite knackered when we arrived, but needed to get out again to do some shopping.
It took us a while until we got ourselves together and climbed up the steep stairs to the street.
We started walking towards Santa Teresa Centre and Neil had the idea to go first to a bar he located on the hill close to us.
Well, we figured that Google got it wrong and was only leading us to the foot of the hill.
We started walking up, but it was already late and getting dark. The place was shutting early too.
It was a bit scary, as it is actually up the hill of a neighbouring Favela and one road further down we saw a strong police post, watching the road into the Favela.
However, we talked to someone in a guest house just on the bottom of the hill and they wanted to drive us up, as it is a long and steep way!
As it was so late we said no and thanked them. They were really nice and maybe we will get the lift another day.
We ordered an Uber to bring us to Lapa, where the supermarket and the parties are!
When we arrived it was just before 7 pm and Lapa started to get ready for a long night of party and Samba.
We felt too tired for this but kept walking along the bars and checking things out.
We went for a beer before we walked back to the supermarket and got our supplies.
Another Uber drove us back up the hill and we climbed down again to our flat.
I had some salad and Neil another beer. Then we both collapsed.
It was a long day.
I am blipping the Copacabana Pavement
The Copacabana promenade is a pavement landscape in large scale (4 kilometres long). It was rebuilt in 1970 and has used a black and white Portuguese pavement design since its origin in the 1930s: a geometric wave. The Copacabana promenade was designed by Roberto Burle Marx.
