Westray - with luck

If I'd had to choose a day to go to Westray it wouldn't have been today. It nearly wasn't - when last night's news was that this afternoon's sailings were under review because of the poor forecast.

The day didn't start brilliantly as I sleepily waited in the wrong queue of cars and only just realised in time that all the cars for Westray were gone...without me! Luckily the ferry was still there!

Again, luckily, the return trip was brought forward because of the bad weather, so after my appointment in the morning it was only 4 hours to wait, rather than 7, for the ferry back to Kirkwall.

It wasn't a day for being outside, so I spent the time catching up on paperwork and read my book. That was pleasant, and peaceful, apart from the wind buffeting the car and my feet getting cold. Will take extra socks next time.
