Walking along history
A day of walks thro' the fields and woods just above Antwerp in Belgium on the initial warm Springday of 2018. We loved the weather and route over farmfields and along a canal with history.
80 years ago the Belgian government, probably its Ministery of Defence, had initiated works in the fields around its harbour city Antwerp as to protect it from Hitler's threads of warfare. An Antitank trench of 33 kilometers length and 6 mtrs width was made and bunkers were built along that long ditch too. All was realised in vain in 1938-'39 as this fortification of Antwerp played no role of significance when WW II broke out.
A part of this fortification is still there as heritage and plays her role now in keeping both history alive and giving nature a chance too, like housing bats in its bunkers.
One of the bunkers you see as backdrop for my fellow walkers of today.
Have a Good Week by all means... Spring brings its warmth at last & it's Passion Week
