Port Arthur
A very touristy, but nonetheless interesting visit to Port Arthur. In its time, it was a manual labour camp, prison, and mental hospital for re-offending convicts. A stark reminder of the brutal British colonial past. The photo is taken from inside the "separate prison", a place where every convict sent to Port Arthur had to spend a certain amount of time. It was run on the solitary confinement model, with prisoners only being allowed out their cell 1 hr per day for exercise, school, and chapel.
