Surprise, surprise...

Verna and I left T5 at Heathrow at 9.25pm yesterday and arrived at 8.25am this morning in  sunny Dubai to a very warm welcome from Sherry and Geraldine. We have come to celebrate Sherry's (Gadget Kid here on blip) special birthday. 

We were taken to our hotel where we were given early access to our room. We refreshed ourselves quickly after our night flight and were picked up again to go for lunch. 

Only, we weren't really because a surprise party had been arranged for Sherry. We knew but she didn't and G did wonderfully and stuck to her guns that we were calling in on a friend first. 

This photo tells the rest of the story! Sherry was greeted by old colleagues, friends and family members. She recovered from the shock of this surprise so well and enjoyed the wonderful buffet and birthday cake...and the gifts specially chosen for her and sneakily delivered by G. And Verna and I were made to feel very welcome. It was great to meet some people we had met on our previous visit five years ago, and to make some new acquaintances. 

Later in the evening, we enjoyed watching the fountains in Dubai Mall, eating outside at Carluccios...very welcome for us!

Back to our hotel and to sleep. The week of celebration has begun!
