Announcement !
Sunshine! So much so that we were moved to sit out with the papers - the first time this year. Then a bit of hull prep and a cycle about, trying out the notorious Leith Walk cycle path.
Home to get into the terylene suit and braces with the winklepickers and off to the Voodoo Rooms for the most eagerly awaited event (certainly by himself) - MrT’s 70th! The band was ready, the food simmering, the barman pulling the pints - but no Steve! Is he still in the Diggers, I asked Wendy. He’ll be here, she said. I assumed some birthday surprise. Well, I wasn’t wrong - after a while she took to the stage with MrT’s brother John. He’d been taken unwell at midday and had been whisked off to the Royal, where he was currently languishing.
Poor Steve! Well, what else for it but to enjoy the music - particularly John Hunt, with his wonderful Sinatra covers (not something that I’ve said before) before the DJ started on Steve’s carefully selected oldies. What dancing! The few young people there were quite understandably aghast. Updates were given on Steve, and glory be, the cheers hit the roof when he arrived at half past midnight. He lives!
So, the cake was cut, the 21yo handed over, and eventually out we stotted. We won’t forget that one in a hurry - I imagine it'll be trotted out at his eightieth.
