Today's the day ............................ to hang on to the chimney

The houses opposite us have recently had their roofs replaced.

It has taken several weeks and it has involved completely removing all the slates, re-doing the wooden bits and the insulation and then putting the slates back on.  It has been fascinating to watch it happen - and I think it's all very clever that it's possible to do it.

This chap was here today, perhaps to make a final check of it all.  He was walking about up at the chimney as if he was on flat ground.  He most certainly was not.  Those chimneys must be thirty feet off the ground.  Then, he sat down on his bottom, slid down to the scaffolding, climbed down the ladders and walked away as if it was the most normal thing in the world.

All I can say is that it's a good job there are people that can do that sort of thing.  Nothing - but nothing - would ever persuade me to go anywhere near those chimneys .............................
