Typically Tropical

My Dear Fellows and Dear Princess Normal,

I still find it astonishing that I can come across palm trees, just knocking about in the city, calm as you please.

To me, they are distant exotic things. Associated with shipwrecked travellers, pirate treasure and people scoffing Bounty Bars.

Seeing them like this feels odd. Like seeing a unicorn in a paddock, or an elf behind the counter in McDonald's.

Of course, it is not all upside. I am feeling a lack of squirrels in my life. I miss them, scurrying around, being all busy and patting down the earth so neatly.

I suppose theoretically we have possums instead of squirrels but I have not yet seen a single one of them. Maybe they are fictional, like haggises in "The Beano". Or maybe they are just sleepy little fellows who nap all day.

I hear tell that Zealandia do night-time walks occasionally. I think I will book myself on one. That should be good for a possum or two.

Incidentally, if the title of my blip has put the song Barbados in your head then you are most welcome.

Fly away, on Coconut Airways...

S.
