African treasures
My love was born in the Congo and lived there until he was five years old. When the family returned home back to Canada in the early 60's, they were able to import 2 African Grey parrots as well as 2 monkeys. After we were married, we looked after one of the parrots Jackoo for a long time and he became part of our household. He was a master at mimicking our young kids voices and sounds, both laughter and their squabbles. Often while cooking dinner in the kitchen upstairs, I'd hear what would sound like fighting and come running downstairs wondering what was going on, only to see them playing quietly. The parrot had picked up their voices so well that I couldn't hear the difference. I'm sure I heard him cackling as I gave him a dirty look and made my way back upstairs. ;)
This little storage box made of 'wengi' wood was just one of many little treasures that found it's way home from Africa.
