Rillito Downs Racetrack
5-1/2 Furlongs

I’m standing just past the finish line.
This is a long race, and these riders will come around again,
When it counts.

From this unobstructed photo spot,
I’m eye-level with horses weighing-in at 1,000 pounds.
Running about 40 mph.

Can you imagine the sound.?
Thunderous.
The Earth literally shakes,
When hooves hit the dirt.

Today’s the end of the season at Rillito Downs
Will they open next year? Maybe.
The track sits on an expensive piece of land ,
That developers have been itching to turn into a money maker.
She’s 75 years old and looks it.
As every year, we’ll wait and see.
