Stone-clad Baptist Church, Cambridge.
In 1721 a newly formed group of Christians called Baptists, took over for their meeting place a former stable and granary at Stone Yard. Over the years it was enlarged and replaced by the present building in 1903, at a cost of £8,ooo and designed by George and Reginald Palmer Baines. The adjoining Stoneyard Centre is used by many groups and there is also a delightful cafe called Livingstones which supports Fair Trade and sells gifts from Traidcraft. I have always liked the stone-clad walls, but it was difficult to get a shot of the complete frontage, owing to continuous traffic and parking bays which are always full.
