...and begone to Vespula germanica the European Wasp.
A pest (to say the least) in Australia where they feast on native insects with secateur sharp mandibles and have a sting that just keeps on giving stinging.


Sadly the native Hairy Flower Wasp, Flower Wasp, Paper Wasp, Bembix Wasp, Honey Bee and Hover Fly are very similar to the EW.
BUT unlike the others they are attracted to protein (aka bbqs and pet food) and nest underground.
SO to track down the beasties and triangulate their flight paths to a nest  a tempting treat of...fish... is put on a stake (extra) and checked on a daily basis to see if a wasp  has had a munch on its way through to a nest.
