Unexpected guests

After another long day on the Monarch making voyages around the peninsula head scouting for wildlife we were delighted by some unexpected guests.

Late in the afternoon on our last voyage the sun was crispy and the views reached out miles and miles to sea, and inland out to the Kakanui Ranges covered in snow. A sudden squall passed us heading out. But as soon as it arrived it was gone and all that remained in it's wake were rainbows. Many of them, bright and perfectly arched over the sea.

Watching albatross and shearwaters skim the waves backlit by rainbows we couldn't believe our luck when a pod of Hector's dolphins began jumping all around the boat. What good luck omens - albatross, dolphins and rainbows. Another day out on the mysterious sea....
