Aramoana Spit

Oh lord the weather here is making me bonkers.

I have rolled out of bed too many times to wind, rain and brooding grey clouds. No sooner does sunshine arrive and you are out the door in a t-shirt, a black cloud moves in dumping cold rain. Sometimes hail. Spring time weather I'm told, full of indecision and change.

This Saturday was no different. The day began full of promise and sun. I slept in. Savored coffee and breakfast. Went for a run on the beach. The plan was to go clamming or "cockling" as they call it here at low tide by Aramoana. But by afternoon the winds were blowing gail force icy and cold. On a picnic excursion with my friend Caroline we took the dogs and some of her visiting friends from Christchurch.

Instead of clamming at low tide, we walked the long spit at Aramoana. Each step was fighting for an inch. Each gust of cold air a slap in the face. Picnicing later hot coffee and biscuits never tasted so good.
