The fence uncovered
Much of our four acres is fenced in by a 2m mesh fence with chestnut poles at 2m intervals. But much of it has been swamped by rampant growth. The poles are now getting on for 20 years old and many are loose or broken. But it its still a useful barrier to the boar and deer and I am hoping to at least keep it going for a year before begining to replace the poles.
It is slow work cutting back all the crap - here in what once was an orchard, but with a fire going to consume the bramble, spindle, field maple, dogwood and lianas of Old Man's Beard it is at least cheery work. Lots of birds singing and two swifts spotted yesterday struggling in the rain.
