It is towed with a motor ship on which a towing boom is mounted that tows it and makes it possible alongside the motor ship
Beside the ship towing prevents that the waves and currents of the ship has affect on the measurements.

There are various measuring instruments at the towing tree:
• a force transducer that measures the tractive force of the towline
• two loggers that measure the speed in relation to the water
• a wind vane that measures the wind direction
• a cup wind speed meter
