what we did today...

Another snow day

At 8.30 as I stepped out of the door all dressed for the blizzard of a walk to school with these 3 boys, there was an announcement on the radio saying the schools wouldn’t be opening until 11am as too many teachers were stuck on the bypass. Penicuik was hit by the heavy snow, forecast as heavy rain, at 7am. By 7.30 the town was at a standstill, as was traffic for the 10miles into Edinburgh. A went for his bus and return 20 mins later to say he was working from home.
The boys needless to say celebrated by spending an hour outside playing in the snow.
I brought them in at 10 to have a snack before we headed to school. They started playing with the playmobil and were playing so nicely and imaginatively that I decided, given the state of the roads and the time it would take me to get them to school on foot and then to get back home, that I would give them a snowday. They continued to play really well for 3 hours! I got lots of work done. I will remember forever how blissful that morning was, if nothing else for the overheard conversations “I’m half man, quarter wolf and quarter koala” “ yeah, I’m a man who turns into a lobster” .... the mind boggles!
