Clever Rat

We have been in our cottage for 4 years now and it wasn't until last month that we realised that we had rats in the garden, which I suppose I shouldn't been too surprised about as we do live in the county, but this little madam is quite inventive.  I thought we had moved everything out of their way, obviously not :-(  How did she work out how to get the nuts!!!  However much you might not like them you have to agree that they are pretty smart - long stretch to get what she wanted in my extras.  I think we need to get rid of them but we have a dog and our neighbour has a cat so I don't want to put down poison, and poison is such a horrible way to die......
