Snow & Semlor
It started snowing again last evening and I think most of the night. We woke up to a new beautiful blanket of pristine snow! This made me very happy as I LOVE snow and was hoping I would get plenty during this visit to Sweden!
We enjoyed the new snow around the neighbourhood while we went on early morning walkies (See first Extra photo). Of course everyone just gets on with life as normal - there were plenty of cyclists heading off to work (on their heated bike paths) and busses and cars with their winter tyres have no problem getting around.
After most of the morning at home we went out for a longer walk at Gamla Linköping (Old Linköping) which is an outdoor museum of historic homes, most of which are actually lived in, or which house small shops, cafes and even a Bed & Breakfast. I’ve been here before and it’s one of my favourite things to do, made even more wonderful by the heavy snow. Around the outside of the village there is a forest and we did much of the walk there. Alice loves the snow, even though her legs get very ‘snow-bally’. Climbing on rocks or anything high, even with all the snow is her favourite activity. The forest was very quiet and peaceful except for our crunchy footsteps. It was a perfect winter outing!
When we got home we went off to Elisabet’s parents for Fika (coffee and a ‘little something’). We had already stopped at the bakery during our early walk to pick up the Semla - a bun traditionally eaten on Tuesdays during Lent - so today was the day! They are delicious, very light and filled with cream and almond paste and cardamom. Delicious with a cup of coffee (See Extra photo).
