Stonehenge
Tom and Sophie live 3 miles from Stonehenge and so it seemed only respectful to make a visit. You can walk all around the area on open access land which has been restored to old grassland, we heard skylarks and entered a coppice woodland where the birds were singing.
If you want to go right up to the stones you have to pay £17 each to English Heritage. This doesn't seem quite right as I don't think anyone has the true ownership of a national treasure like that. However, I imagine hundreds of thousands of visitors each year must arrive from all over the world and so the site would be under enormous pressure and needs looking after. Perhaps I should have special free entry because I was brought up in Wiltshire?
Anyway it was good to see it even from a distance and we had a good walk too.
