Guildford Cathedral

Our visitors have passed Guildford Cathedral many times but have never been tempted to venture inside. Many people say that with its forbidding brick exterior it looks like Battersea Power Station. so when we visited this morning there were audible gasps of astonishment when we entered into the light soaring nave. This is the widest cathedral nave in the country and is open the whole length of the cathedral, right up to the altar. The extra shows the cover to the font in the baptistry. All the time we were there the organ was being played. What a pleasure it must be for an organist to play a cathedral organ.
The cathedral was designed in the 1930s but building had to stop because of the war. It started again in the 1950s and Normous and I both remember buying a brick to contribute to its construction. We are both proud to be part of such a beautiful building.
From the cathedral we went and found ourselves a pub lunch where there was a roaring fire and an excellent menu.
Home again now to our own log fire and a cup of tea.
