Best Seats

There's a plain-clothed security officer every hundred metres as we go out to Cairo airport. The Crown Prince of Saudi is in town and he will coming along this very road a little later, en route to Cairo Opera House where President Sisi will treat him to the best seats in the house for a theatrical performance. Meanwhile, most Egyptians make do with seats of the kind you see in frame (and in others in this series). Comfy, they are not, but one has to admire how the man on the Egyptian Street can make something out of nothing. A shame that necessity must always be the mother of invention in this country. Maybe one day its leaders will change that. I really don't believe it will be in my lifetime.

PS
For those familiar with the Yasheen story, I met him a few weeks ago but he was off selling flowers between the line of cars before I could blip him. We went to his usual stomping ground both yesterday and today but the young lady in his 'home base' kiosk said he wouldn't be around until tomorrow. We made her swear she would deliver tomorrow the white envelope with the allowance in it that we provide him at the end of every trip. Hope he gets it . . . she has an honest face and we know where she works!
