Snow in Venice

Our final day in Venice and we woke up to snow!

We managed to get about though, and had another stroll around the Rialto Bridge area and San Polo area. I liked the lighting on the main blip, with the light catching passers by in front of the shops on the bridge. The first extra is of the daily fish market, and the second extra is a rare Venetian snowman!

After the long delays and frustrations with the water bus from the airport we decided to catch the local water bus (the Ca' d'Ora stop was next to the hotel so no bridges to cross) to the bus station and take the road bus (with wheels!) to the airport. We allowed plenty of time in case there were delays or we got lost. Of course we walked from the hotel to the water bus stop, straight on to the water bus, and then at the bus station straight on to the airport bus which departed almost immediately after we boarded. So we were at the airport an hour earlier than we needed, and on top of that our evening flight was delayed by an hour (knock-on effect of the early morning snow). So 4 hours in the airport, plenty of time to worry about how much snow there might be at Gatwick (people were talking about news of very heavy snow there) and how I was going to get fuel if there was snow, and how much snow there might be on the long drive back to the Cotswolds.

In the event there was hardly any snow at Gatwick. The guy at Purple Parking gave me directions to the nearest petrol station, which were great but it was on the other side of the road with no easy access. I kept on driving (on fumes I think) and passed at least 3 other brightly lit garages, all inaccessible on the other side of the road, before we finally found one we could actually drive in to. The drive home was much better than expected, very little snow, and unusually light traffic. We arrived home just after midnight.
