More signs of Spring at Rowe Woods
Saturday
It was still cool today but blue skies and sunshine all day. We had a leisurely start to the day, then late morning headed to Rowe Woods to see what signs of Spring we could find. The first we found were the hellebores and the celandine, the first banks of daffodils we saw there was no sign of flowers, but later in our walk we found some more which were coming into flower. I had thought it may be too cool yet to expect to see turtles, but as you can see I was wrong -there were several out sunning themselves. In another shot you can see fresh leaves on some of the undergrowth. The trail was rather muddy in places, which we had rather expected, given the amounts of rainfall we have had over recent weeks, so we came back with muddy jeans. All in all, it was a really enjoyable walk - it felt so good to really connect with nature again. It was after 2pm when we left - high time for lunch we thought - so we decided to head downtown to a pub/restaurant we have been wanting to try for a while, The Incline in Price Hill, which has a great view over the city. It’s name is due to the fact that it stands at the site of a former incline railway. At one time, five of these hillside railroads carried Cincinnati citizens and tourists alike to the peaks of Mount Adams, Mount Auburn, Clifton, and Price Hill. Unfortunately, unlike Pittsburgh which has preserved one of theirs, all of Cincinnati’s have been destroyed and become history. We enjoyed a very good late lunch, admiring the view, then headed home. This evening we went to the cinema to see The Greatest Showman - great film!
