The Old Forge (Saturday 3rd March 2018)
I don't think the temperature got above freezing yesterday but can't be sure as the overnight thaw overtook the Maximum Temperature reading and it was 0.1 degrees by the morning. This means that I should be able in theory to get out of Calne for fuel and supplies that are beyond walking distance (unless there's more from Emmageddon tonight).
Various kinds of thrushes have been tempted down from the hills in search of food and I've seen many pictures of redwings and fieldfares in gardens online; in fact it seems to be Fieldfare Day. This morning through the porch window I spotted a first for my garden too, namely this fieldfare, pecking the ground and flying into the branches. It didn't seem interested in the feeders.
I took this with my bridge camera and have had to tweak the results a fair bit due to low light and three panes of glass, as I was in the kitchen. Had I opened the door to the porch everything would have flown away.
