Cold Day
Unlike the rest of the country Lochaber has remained generally free of snow. However the air has remained sub zero during the day and the effect of the wind has made it feel bitterly cold.
I do not normally suffer from cold hands and I need fingers free on the right hand at least for operating the pole mounted computer which controls the survey equipment. I returned to the car to for a glove for my left hand. I must have removed the gloves in a summer clearout. I had a midge net in the box but no gloves. A spare sock did the trick but this seemed to accentuate how cold the digits of my right hand were.
On a nearby forest track big wood trucks were rumbling back and forth and churning up huge clouds of dust. You do not associate dusty conditions with such intense cold.
