The ski trail over to Äkäskero
We had more snow yesterday, which has had a spectacular effect on the trees on the flanks of the hills. Whilst the weather was overcast today, the conditions were so perfect and the views so other-worldly, we covered the ground without much pain - all in all a good 20km circuit, classic style, with a couple of stiff hill climbs.
It is heartening to look at the map which just shows a large green expanse that extends right across Lapland from Norway to Russia. This area is mixed boreal forest and aapa mire underneath a good metre of snow. Very quiet today apart from a few distant Crossbills calling from the treetops.
