Garden spider

... also known as a cross spider because of the markings on its (her) abdomen. This one has taken up residence outside our kitchen window for the last few weeks - I got a few pictures of her wrapping up, then eating, a fly but they were a bit too gruesome to blip. Unless you're too squeamish to look, you can just see two of her eyes in this picture.
