Waiting for Big Snow

Two hours at the dentist left me feeling like I'd been punched in the jaw.

I got talking to a bloke in his seventies (I would say) in the waiting room before my ordeal.

He was sceptical about snow in Florence. 'It won't happen,' he said.

I asked him about the general election. 'Fanno schifo tutti'.  'They all disgust me' or 'I hate them all and I won't be voting.'

We got onto Brexit and he reckoned it was a good thing. At least to get out from 'under the thumb of the Germans'.

He then told me that during the war an SS Officer came to his parents house in Florence searching for someone. His Dad told him to hide under the bed. The SS Officer was not fooled and pulled him out, picked him up by his feet and put a pistol to his head. The wee boy started crying and some kind of friendlier exchange took place before the SS Officer shouted, 'Raus, there's no-one here' and left.

Something like that would make an impression.
