Spring

According to the meteorological calendar today is the first day of spring (the first day of astronomical spring is 20 March). Well its currently minus 4 degrees so the best spring I could find is this chaleybeate spring which rises just behind my house where the greensand ridge meets the wealden clay. The springhead and stream course are stained ochre by mineral spring waters containing salts of iron. Whatever the weather this spring always seems to flow.
