Countryside.
I had to collect a parcel this morning, and on the way home I made a small detour in order to take a few photos.
The temperatures have remained stubbornly below freezing all day. The windchill making it feel like -7C.
Other parts of the country have had heavy snowfalls and a lot of disruption. Here there are snow flurries from time to time, some like mini blizzards, but as soon as it appears that it is becoming a "whiteout" situation, it gradually returns to clearer skies, and a snatch of sunlight.
March arrives tomorrow, but there is no sign yet of winter loosening it's grip.
Edward Thomas's poem "Thaw" expresses for me all I feel about the end of February.
Here is an extract :
" Over the land freckled with snow half thawed,
The speculating rooks at their nests cawed
And saw from the elm-tops, delicate as flowers of grass,
What we could not see, Winter pass."
