RICE RINDS...

A small truck pulls up somewhere on your street, like this one on the sidewalk...not too safe, for you must walk on the street to by-pass this rig...they mix the powdered rice, sugar and water...start the gas powered engine...add the mixture to the container add hot air and presto...out comes a slew of what looks like pork rind, similar to air popped pop-corn...but it is really a tasty, light crunchy snack called MI (MEE) TONG.
5 YUAN for one of the bags...i find them a little bland but if i add some salt and a little red pepper powder, turns out to be a yummy munchy spicy treat...(photo by Iain Dewar)
