Seamstress in a market, Ooty, Tamil Nadu, India
Day 12 (27/02) Around Ooty.
Pleasantly late start today @ 09:30, for a drive around the area, visiting a Botanic Garden and a couple of spectacular wiew points however the highlight of the day was an unaccompanied walk around the central market.
This is primarily a veg market, with some meat stalls & some fish stalls, the former not bearing looking at! The deeper we went the more curious looks we were getting so we restricted our purchases to the simple fruits of life.
Scattered around the market were various artisan workshops with several tailor and sewing businesses hard at it.
Eventually we started to feel a wee bit uncomfortable so made our exit and grabbed a TucTuc back to the hotel. Refreshments were then taken, on the roof terrace. See extras.
A 6½ hour drive looms tomorrow, to Kodaikanal, which I think is almost, if not quite in Kerala???
BTW, whilst I sympathise with all back in Blighty, with the nasty weather and all that, spare a thought for us weary travellers at 8500 ft ASL where the temperature dropped last night to 9 degC, after a very pleasant 25 degC at noon. Back down the hill tomorrow to 30 deg or thereabouts. Can I stand it? You bet I can.
Looks like we just got out of Sri Lanka in time. Wet, Wet, Wet being the unexpected order of the day. Sorry for Sue's Yoga pals who have just started a cycling holiday there.
Cheers,
G
PS One animal is a man, in the market, the other is an Oriental Squirrel
